Relationships are the fundamental building blocks of complex databases and are critical to designing and working with sophisticated databases. This module is intended for participants who are familiar with the basic features of Access but are interested in learning how to define relationships in relational databases and how to create relational queries and forms. Creating lookup fields will be introduced. Challenge exercises will help reinforce concepts.
What You Should Already Know
You should have already completed Access 2016: The Basics or have the equivalent skills. Specifically, you should be able to:
- create simple tables
- create and edit data in tables
- create simple queries
What You Will Learn
This module introduces principles of database relationships and provides hands-on practice on how to:
- create one-to-many relationships
- enforce referential integrity rules
- build relational queries
- explore different join types
- export a query to Microsoft Excel
- create and use a relational form
What You Will Need to Use These Materials
To complete this workshop successfully, you will need:
- the use of Microsoft Access 2016
- the exercise files, which will be located in the upper right of the page if they are required
