The PivotTable is complete, but there are still a few fixes to be made. First of all, the purpose of this PivotTable is to show expenses, but the income category is listed. There is also a blank row and a blank column. These can be filtered out of the PivotTable.
- To filter out the Income category, in the Row Labels heading,
Click, Click the Income checkbox
- To filter out the (blank) row,
Click the (blank) checkbox
- Close the dialog box.
The PivotTable now shows only the expenses by category and quarter, as well as the grand totals.
While this view of the data may be perfectly adequate, the columns and rows can easily be "pivoted" to show a different view.
- To move the Quarter field, in the Field List
Press & Drag Quarter from the Columns area to the Rows area under Category
The PivotTable changes and now shows each category subdivided into four quarters.
The data is the same. Only the emphasis and look of the PivotTable has changed. Maybe this view of the data is better. Maybe it isn't. The PivotTable can be pivoted again to get another view.
- To move the Category field to the Columns area, in the Rows area,
Press & Drag Category to the Columns area
The PivotTable changes to give another view of the data.
- Save the workbook.
