There may be times when you need to download your Google doc as a different file type. Maybe you have a colleague who only works in Microsoft Word or you need a PDF that can be opened on any device. In either of these cases, Google makes it easy to download your document into a different file type.
Copying the practice document
If you are beginning this course at this point, you will need to copy the practice document to your Google Drive.
NOTE: If you have been working through the course, your file should be up to date and you will not need to copy the practice document. You may continue at Downloading the file.
- To begin copying the practice document in a new browser window,
Right-click Copy practice document, Click Open link in new window
The file begins to open in a new window of the web browser. Before the document will open and can be edited, we need to make a copy of it.
Move to the new browser window.
- To copy the document file, in the browser window,
Click
A copy of the file is now open and, by default, is saved in your Google Drive. The filename now has the words "Copy of" at the beginning.
Downloading the file
Let's download our file as a Microsoft Word document.
- To see the download options, on the menu bar,
Click File, Point Download
- To download the file,
Click Microsoft Word (.docx)
The Word document is downloaded. Depending on your browser, you may see the document in the Downloads bar or the Download panel. In any case, the file should be in your Downloads folder. From this folder, you can save the document in a different location, open it to be edited in Word, or add it as an email attachment.
