Images are a vital part of any good presentation. When deciding which image to use, it is a good idea to try to use the highest quality picture you can. Blurry, low-quality images will make your presentation look unprofessional.Problems with blurry images typically happen when using images that are too small and enlarging them within your presentation. This can be avoided by using large, high quality images. Remember, it is easy to make a large image smaller without sacrificing image quality.

There are several ways to insert images into your presentation. In this lesson, we will review a couple of options.

Copying the practice presentation

If you are beginning this course at this point, you will need to copy the presentation to your Google Drive.

NOTE: If you have been working through the course, your file should be up to date and you will not need to copy the practice presentation. You can move ahead to Finding an image by searching.

To begin copying the practice presentation in a new browser window,

Right-click Copy practice presentation, Click Open link in new window

The file begins to open in a new window of the web browser. Before the presentation will open and can be edited, we need to make a copy of it.

Move to the new browser window.
To copy the presentation file, in the browser window,

Click

A copy of the file is now open and, by default, is saved in your Google Drive. The filename now has the words "Copy of" at the beginning.

Finding an image by searching Google Images

Let's begin by searching Google for an appropriate image. We can do this without leaving Google Slides.

To move to the correct slide, in the Slide panel,
Click the slide titled "Adding an Image to the Presentation"

To open the Search for Images panel, in the menu bar,
Click Insert, Click Image, Click Search the web

The Search for Images panel opens. This panel provides an easy way to search Google Images for appropriate images. In theory, all of the images found while working in Google Slides should be labeled for reuse. However, copyright can be tricky. Always confirm that you have permission to use an image and always give the owner of the image attribution.

Let's search for an image of Indiana University.

To search for Indiana University, in the search box, type:
Indiana University Enter key

To select an image,
Click on an image
To insert an image, at the bottom of the panel,
Click

The image is inserted into your slide. While this image may work well, let's delete it and explore another way to insert an image.

Deleting an image

Deleting an image from a slide is an easy task. Let's go ahead and delete the image we just added.

To select the image, if necessary,
Click on the image
To delete the image, on the keyboard, press:
Delete key

The image has been deleted. Now let's see how to add an image from our Google Drive folder. To do this, we will need to copy an image into Drive.

Copying the image to your Google Drive

Before we can work through adding the image to the slide, you will need to copy the image to your Google Drive.

To copy the image to your Google Drive, click the following button:
Copy the image

Copying an image works differently than copying a presentation. The image opens in a web browser. Before you can add this image to your presentation, you need to add it to your Google Drive.

To add this image to Google Drive, at the top right side of the window,
Click

A copy of the image is now saved in your Google Drive.

Adding an image from Google Drive

You may have images saved in your Google Drive. Whether these are pictures you have taken yourself collected from other sources, it is easy to add an image from Drive to your slide.

To open the Insert Image panel, if necessary, on the menu bar,
Click Insert, Click Image, Click Drive

The Google Drive panel opens. In this panel, you can choose where to search for your image. Let's insert the image we just copied to Drive.

To select the correct image, in the Drive panel,
Click Sample Gates.jpg

To insert the Sample Gates image, at the bottom of the Drive panel,
Click

The image is now inserted into your slide.

Moving an image

The Sample Gates image is currently left-aligned. Let's center the image on the slide. Google Slides has built-in tools to help us place images where we want them. As we slowly move the image to the right, a red line will appear when the image is centered.

To select the image, if necessary,
Click the image

To center the image,
Press & Drag the image to the right until the center alignment line is visible
