Sometimes one of Google's pre-designed themes is close to what you’d like, but might not be the best color or font for your presentation. Thankfully it’s not too difficult to adjust the theme to suit your purposes.
In Google Slides, each theme has a Theme builder. Information about the theme, including colors, fonts, and effects, is stored here. By modifying the theme in the Theme builder, we can make changes to all of the slides at the same time.
In this course, we will be working in a presentation that was created for us. The basic design and content are already in the presentation. We will use this as a starting point for making edits, formatting images, and adding elements. Before we begin, you will need to copy the practice presentation to your Google Drive.

The file begins to open in a new window of the web browser. Before the presentation will open and can be edited, we need to make a copy of it.
Move to the new browser window.

A copy of the file is now open and, by default, is saved in your Google Drive. The filename now has the words "Copy of" at the beginning.
We can edit the appearance of all slides at the same time by editing the theme in the Theme builder. Let's switch to the Theme builder view, and select the Theme slide so we can make changes to the background color and fonts.

The screen changes and we now see the Theme builder options.
On the left of the window are the different slide layouts available in the chosen theme, Material. While it is possible to modify each layout individually, for today's purposes, we will modify all of the layouts at the same time. We can do this by editing the Theme slide.

The first thing we'll change about the appearance of our slides is the background color. Let's go ahead and change the background color of the Theme slide to green.

The Background dialog box opens. We have the options to change the color of the background or to add an image to the background. Let's change the color.

For best results, it is usually a good idea to select colors from the same theme. This will ensure that other colors in the presentation (fonts, shapes, borders, etc.) will work well with the new background color.

The background color for the slides changes to green.

If the font for a particular theme is not what you would like, this can also be done on the Theme slide. Font changes made here will be applied to the entire presentation.

Changing the font for the entire presentation may make parts of a slide take up more or less space depending on the new font you choose. Text that previously took up only one line may now take up two or more lines, for instance. After changing the font, go through your presentation and make sure your text looks the way you intended.
