In order to turn the assets imported into a Premiere Pro project into a completed video, we first need to create a sequence to add them to. A sequence is a set of clips containing at least one video track and one audio track. We can have multiple sequences in a Premiere Pro project and combine them as desired to create a finished video. Without a sequence to add clips to, there's no place to assemble imported clips into a completed video — so we’ll start by creating two sequences for our dance video project, one for the video’s introduction and a second for the main body of the video.
There are multiple ways to create new sequences in Premiere Pro. The method we'll use in this section involves creating a new sequence based on a clip that we've imported into a project.
Creating a sequence based on a clip that's been imported into a project is a quick and straightforward way to make a new sequence. Premiere Pro will create the new sequence using the clip's dimensions, frame rate, and other file parameters as the settings for the clip. Once the sequence is created, the clip we based the new sequence on will be added to that sequence, ready for us to edit.
When creating a sequence based on a clip, the sequence we create will have the same name as the clip we used as the basis for creating it — we'll want to rename the sequence so we know what part of our video project the sequence contains.
Let's create a sequence based on the clip waltz.mp4. Once the sequence is created, we'll change its name to Main and move it to the Sequences bin.
